| A native of Chicago, John R. "Jack"
Doody is the principal of the law firm of John R. Doody, A Professional Law Corporation.
He received his B.A. in Economics with High Honors from Eastern Illinois University in
1979 and his J.D. degree from the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana in 1982.
Before then, Mr. Doody served overseas with the United States Marine Corps and in the late
1980's Mr. Doody studied at the Sorbonne in Paris. Mr. Doody is admitted to practice law in Arizona and California*, and is a member of the bar of all U.S. District Courts in Arizona and California, the U.S. Claims Court, and the Ninth Circuit United States Court of Appeals. Mr.
Doody has extensive business litigation experience, including jury and
non-jury trials. He has been a
proud member of the International Association of Defense Counsel (IADC)
since 2004. He also is a
long-standing member of the American Arbitration Association's Commercial
and Construction Arbitration Panels in Phoenix and is certified as a
mediator with the Arizona Attorney General's Office. Mr.
Doody has been an active, contributing member of his community for many
years, both in law and in the broader, law-related community.
Mr. Doody served two terms on the Ethics Committee of the State Bar
of Arizona from 2000 to 2006, giving advice to individual lawyers, writing
draft opinions for adoption by the Committee and use by members of the Bar
as a whole, and helping formulate ethics-related policies for the State
Bar of Arizona. Mr. Doody has
also been active in neighborhood preservation activities, including
service as the founding President of the Shadow Rock-Gold Key Neighborhood
Association and continuing to help advocate for that organization in its
relations with the City of Phoenix and with surrounding neighborhood
organizations. In 2006, Mr.
Doody was appointed by the Phoenix City Council to the North Mountain
Village Planning Committee, where he currently helps formulate land use
policy and helps decide requests for zoning changes.
Mr. Doody is also a member of the Site Council at Lookout Mountain
Elementary School in the Moon Valley neighborhood of Phoenix and was
recently recognized by the Governing Board of the Washington Elementary
School District for his contributions as one of the leaders of the K-3
Override Task Force in 2007. Having formed his own practice in 1995 after several years of large law firm experience, Mr. Doody offers high quality business legal services at very competitive rates. His areas of practice include transaction and litigation work in corporation law, partnership, franchise, sales and secured transactions, insurance law, unfair trade practices, bankruptcy, construction law, real estate purchases and sales, real estate financing, bankruptcy law representing secured creditors, lease negotiation and landlord/tenant law. Mr. Doody also prepares wills, trusts, and estate-planning powers of attorney for property and health care decisions. Currently a sole practitioner, Mr. Doodys contact network throughout Arizona and in other states gives him the cost-effective capability of associating additional professionals as the need arises. |
